Skills, Support Gems, and Uniques

In addition to the 20 new skills for the Huntress, POE 2 Dawn of the Hunt introduces two more skills:

  • Raise Spectre: This skill allows you to trap the soul of almost any monster in the game and summon them from the skill panel at the cost of spirit. More powerful monsters require more spirit, enabling you to summon a small horde of weaker monsters or a smaller group of stronger ones.

  • Summon Rhoa: This bird companion aids in combat and can be mounted, allowing you to move at full speed while using bows or throwing spears. The Rhoa has a stagger bar that fills as you're attacked; if it fills, you'll be knocked off and vulnerable.

To further enhance build customization, GGG is introducing over 100 new support gems to modify your skills. Here are some highlights:

  • Haemocrystals: Instead of causing damage-over-time from bleed attacks, haemocrystals will detonate after 1.5 seconds.

  • Alignment: Shows a directional arrow for bow skills, dealing 30% more projectile damage if fired in the indicated direction.

  • Caltrops: Ranged spear attacks drop caltrops along the spear's path, damaging and maiming nearby enemies.

  • Enormity: Creates larger persistent minions with more life and damage, at the cost of more spirit.

  • Unsteady Tempo: Hobbles the first melee attack in a sequence in exchange for boosted critical hit chance for the second attack and increased damage for the third.

  • Profanity: Supported skills consume a corpse on use, dealing 30% more chaos damage.

  • Retaliate: Melee attack skills deal up to 40% more attack damage as your stun bar increases.

  • Syzygy: Slam skills become crushing blows against ignited or fully armour-broken enemies, intimidating heavily stunned foes.

POE 2 Dawn of the Hunt also introduces over 100 unique items, focusing on mid-to-endgame builds. Examples include:

Chernobog's Pillar (Shield): Gain fire damage based on your block chance.

The Coming Calamity (Body Armour): Gain all three Herald skills with no spirit cost and remove elemental resistances from nearby enemies.

Waistgate (Belt): Equip life or mana flasks in either slot, allowing for two life or two mana flasks.

Azmerian Wisps

The POE 2Dawn of the Hunt update introduces Azmerian Wisps, a new event type found throughout the campaign and endgame. When you approach a wisp, it flees, infusing nearby monsters with new bonuses based on the wisp type. For example:

  • Wisp of the Great Bear: Increases enemy health and stun attacks.

  • Wisp of the Winter Owl: Adds cold damage, energy shield, and wind bursts on death.

  • Wisp of the Wild Cat: Enhances enemy evasion and critical chance.

The chase ends when the wisp possesses a rare monster, granting it new abilities. Defeating the monster rewards you based on the number of enemies killed during the chase. These rewards tie into GGG's goal of expanding specialized mods using socketable items like runes, now available in multiple tiers.

Endgame

GGG aims to smooth out progression and add more engaging content with its endgame changes. Key updates include:

Respawn and Reenter Maps: Players can respawn and reenter a map after death, with six total attempts per map using a default waystone. The number of attempts decreases with added modifiers.

  • Tower Changes: The number of towers is reduced, but each is more potent. Tablets now apply their mechanic to more maps, and higher-tier waystones further increase this number. Towers can also spawn with any mechanic, including new unique bosses.

  • Additional Tweaks: The update includes a pass on map modifiers, a new introduction quest, a rework of the corruption map mechanic, Rogue Exiles, unique strongboxes, eight new map biomes, a recombination crafting mechanic, unique tablets, and an expanded Atlas tree.

A significant balance patch will also accompany these changes, making Dawn of the Hunt feel like a major refresh for the game. The update promises to address key endgame complaints and offer a compelling reason to dive back in. The update arrives on April 4.
